Commercial: APPLE Computer Valley Green 5

  • Apple Computer: Valley Green Five - Special Projects Facility, 1990
Size: 20,000 s.f.
Location: Cupertino, California
Position: Project Architect / Designer, HED Architects

This office building was designed as expansion space for the adjacent Valley Green 5 project. This space was used by research engineers, formed to develop specific projects, then disbanded when the project was complete, at which point new teams would use the facilities. The utility of the plan is organized through the bisection of the building at the ceiling plane by a continuous high-bay skylight and a circulation spine directly below. The center of the space is accented by an oversized column, within the break room / work room area. The central focus of the plan promotes interaction between the engineers, whose workstations are grouped around this common public space.
