Commercial: APPLE Computer Valley Green 6

  • Apple Computer: Valley Green Six - Research and Development, 1989
Size: 60,000 s.f. plus new Assembly Hall
Location: Cupertino, California
Position: Project Architect / Designer, HED Architects

This existing office building was converted into Apple Computer’s first fully services research and development facility. It consisted of two, two story office buildings linked by a minimal lobby and separated by an exterior landscape court yard. Even though the total square footage satisfied the projects space needs, its separated plan presented a major obstacle, as the departments to occupy it exceeded 45,000 square feet each, and therefore could not be located on one floor as required by the users. The assembly space was included in the project to bridge the two building components, thus connecting the split floor area of the departments.
