Sutter Health Construction Office: 2002 Size: 4,000 s.f. Location: Sacramento, California This is a permanent on-site construction office within the urban campus of the growing hospital, where there was no location for construction trailers. Expected growth and new construction will occur over the next seven years. The existing shell space could not be altered and is comprised of three different constructions, each built in a different period of history, between the 1850s and 1950s. This space is a small part of a much larger historic structure. With the exception of the minuscule windows on the street frontage, there was no natural light or visibility to the outdoors. The interior environment needed to expand the perception of space and have a clear and simple design, which would counter-balance the cacophony of existing constructions.
