Commercial: WORLD VIEW TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS

  • Worldview Technology Partners: 2007
Size: 4,000 s.f.
Location: San Mateo, California

Worldview Technology Partners is a venture capital firm from Palo Alto, California. This office relocation to San Mateo also included downsizing. Located on the ground floor of the distinctive Bridgepointe Office building complex in San Mateo, this new suite is adjacent to the main building lobby. As a budget conscious design, attention was placed on the design rather then the selection of high-end materials. The stone cladding is inexpensive thin masonry brick, dry-stacked, providing a varied texture. This roughness of the brick creates a wabi sabi in the space: contrasting to the modern lines of the rest of the design.

The design of the space focused on the main conference room and reception area. In order to enhance space, a portion of the conference room is fully glazed, providing viewing diagonally through the room. In addition, the accent ceiling in the area straddles the reception and main conference room, producing a singular experience of the office. The fish fossil was selected as the primary artwork in the lobby, as it is a metaphor for the work of the firm: Finding value in the stone took a risk and resulted in the discovery of the fossil - like being a venture capitalist.
