Energy Efficient Design: Architect as HERS II Rater

  • ARCHITECT AS HERS ll RATER & HOME PERFORMANCE SUBCONTRACTOR

Paul Welschmeyer Architects has combined the licensed / certified professions of an Architect and a HERS II Rater, representing the state-of-the-art in the profession of energy efficient home design; new, existing and remodeled. Obtaining energy efficiency incentives offered by Federal / State governments, and local utilities requires thermal modeling of an existing house (with its proposed alterations), which the HERS II Rater provides and the Architect designs.

The construction of these homes is assisted by a new subcontracting field known as Home Performance Contracting. These Home Performance Contractors are educated and trained to the standards of the Building Performance Institute (BPI), able to execute, and self test, high performance residential energy upgrades as prepared by the Architect/HERS II Rater. There is no substitute for a reputable high quality General Contractor within any community, but the added value of a Home Performance Subcontractor to the project, ensures a home that will perform as expected or better.
