Energy Efficient Design: ENERGY & DESIGN Case Study 2

  • ENERGY & DESIGN CASE STUDY 2: M. Welschmeyer House, 2010

This project was an Energy Efficiency & Architectural Master Plan with a primary focus on architectural improvements. The architectural improvements were also the primary factor in the efficiency increase for this house.

ENERGY ISSUES TO RESOLVE
No insulation in walls & exposed floors, some on roof
House is very uncomfortable
Second floor overheats at the end of the day
Envelope leakage = 0.87 NACH, room for improvement
Duct leakage = 23%, may have to be fixed
Duct leakage to the outside = 4%, duct leakage not high priority

ARCHITECTURAL ISSUES TO RESOLVE
Most interested in architectural improvements
Hard to find front door, poor street appearance
Street improvement desired, no windows to street
New front landscape desired
Side yard access to studio workspace desired
