Historic Preservation: RANCHO HIGUERA Historic Park Entry

  • Rancho Higuera Historic Park Entrance: Educational Kiosk, 2009
Location: Historic Warm Springs District, Fremont, California

The Rancho Higuera is one of the oldest unimproved/unpreserved historic resources in Southern Alameda County. Slated for improvements by the City of Fremont in the 2000’s improvements to this historic park never occurred as the funding was diverted to other projects within the City. Determined to maintain the presence of Rancho Higuera and it’s historic Alta California lands, three historic organizations (Mission Peak Heritage Foundation, Washington Township Historic Society & The Museum of Local History) funded this conceptual design for a new entry kiosk onto the site. This is an educational kiosk with displays focusing on the historic use of the site, open to the general public year round and in the future, will be the threshold onto an improved and maintained historic park.
