Residential: HAYDEN RESIDENCE Additions & Alterations

  • Hayden Residence: Additions and Alterations, 2007
Size: 2,500 s.f. with whole site Master Plan
Location: Fremont, California
Sustainability: Energy Conservation - 30%

Mr. Hayden is a musician and a maker of handcrafted acoustic guitars. The existing garage just wasn't working as a multifunction shop/garage/storage room. The functions needed to separate and more space was needed. To support their home concert program in the community, casual performance space in the garden was desired, in addition to a kitchen remodel and new master bedroom suite.

The property was large enough, as it was at the end of the cul-de-sac, and the mature trees would provide a superb visual and acoustic backdrop to the performance-garden. To phase the construction of the project, the expanded end of the garage would also provide the initial stage, and when the master bedroom suite was complete, two orientations of the performance stage would be possible. The expansions and additions to the house are planned to be compatible with the ranch-tract style of this 1950s neighborhood, but enhanced to meet contemporary living and aesthetics: fine wood working will be featured throughout the interiors.
