June Hollow Residence: New Construction, 2001
Size: 3,800 s.f. with Guest House & Studio
Location: Montera, California

The design of this residence reintroduces the romance of California living, with outdoor living space central to the plan. The residence’s mass gathers around the open space, preserving a sanctuary of native trees, rocks and sunlight. Tucked into the hillside with a stepped floor and sloped roof, the residence follows the contours of the land. Entering through glass doors at the heart of the home, the resident passes as gently through the entrance corridor as wind through the trees, with interior space on either side and shaded outdoor space beyond. An overhanging roof supported by wooden beams displays a solid, traditional structure. At the same time, the roof shades the open home, with its unconventional wealth of glass.
